Sirio offers a wide range of Pulse and Drive Transformers, they are categorised by dimensions and production profiles and then grouped in to families. Pulse transformers are used in high frequency power converters, when it is required to transfer an electrical pulse from the control to the power stage, keeping the galvanic isolation between the circuits, according to the safety standards related to each different application fields.
The electrical signal is applied to the primary side and transferred to the secondary side, to fire power BJTs, power MOSFETs, IGBTs, SCRs, GTOs, TRIACs.
Extremely compact drive transformers, with minimum surface dimensions, based on ferrite toroidal core and built with isolated wire, in order to guarantee an isolation voltage up to 4 kVrms. They typically have low transfer area values (few μVs) and low primary inductance. They are mainly used for power MOSFETs and BJTs high frequency firing. Standard versions are available with one or two secondary windings.
Very compact drive transformers, with minimum height, based on ferrite EE core and built with interleaved windings. They typically have transfer area values up to a few hundreds μVs and medium values of leakage inductance and coupling capacity. They are mainly used for IGBTs, power MOSFETs and BJTs high frequency firing.
Families 108 & 110
Pulse transformers based on EE ferrite core, with separated windings (placed in different and separated winding sections). They typically have transfer area values of few hundred μVs. The peculiarity of this kind of component is the low coupling capacity between the windings, that is particularly important to avoid undesired firings of electronic switches. They are mainly used in the multiple shots firing technique. The production with automatic multi-mandrel winding machines enhances the quality/price ratio of these components. Standard versions are available with one or two secondary windings.
Families 109, 117 & 118
Different sizes' drive and pulse transformers based on ferrite EE cores, with interleaved windings. They typically have transfer area values from one hundred to a thousand μVs, depending on the dimension. They are by far the most used drive transformers because of their versatility, which makes them suitable for many application fields, with different working voltages, currents and frequencies. They are typically used in IGBTs and power MOSFETs. Standard versions are designed with one or two secondary windings.
Families 111,112, 113 & 114
Different sizes drive and pulse transformers based on toroidal cores. Characteristics of these components are quite different, because several magnetic core materials can be used and different windings distribution can be chosen. They are typically used in IGBTs, power MOSFETs and BJTs high frequency firing or in lower frequency applications with Thyristors and Triacs. Standard versions are available with one or two secondary windings.
When the requested electromagnetic features cannot be fulfilled by any of the standard sizes, the pulse transformer will belong to the 116 series. Normally two different 116 pulse transformers share the Sirio Technology.
Families 118 & 119
Pulse transformers in two different sizes based on laminated Silicon-Iron or Nickel-Iron EE cores, with one winding above the other. They typically have high values of voltage time area for single shot large pulse firing. Standard versions are designed with one secondary winding. Those components are normally used to fire Thyristors and Triacs in big power apparatuses running at relatively low frequencies.
