GD Rectifiers attends Engineering & Manufacturing Awards 2023

GD Rectifiers proudly attends the Engineering & Manufacturing Awards 2023 as a finalist

Engineering & Manufacturing Awards 2023

Last week we attended the Engineering & Manufacturing Awards as a finalist in the Engineering Impact category. The Engineering & Manufacturing Awards celebrate everyone in the sector, from design, manufacture, production and management from companies of all sizes.

Engineering & Manufacturing Awards – Ceremony

The ceremony took place on 13th September at The London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square. Award finalists, judges, The Mark Allen Group and sponsors were invited to attend the award ceremony, presented by celebrity host Angellica Bell.

The Engineering & Manufacturing Awards 2023

This year’s competition has shone a spotlight on the incredible contribution made by manufacturers large and small and showcased both the innovative measures that engineers across industry are taking to grow their businesses in challenging times as well as the role played by engineers in addressing some of society’s most pressing challenges.

EMA’s shortlist was bristling with inspiring tales of best practice and innovation – provided the judging panel with plenty of reasons to feel very positive about the future of UK industry.

As Jon Excell (Editor & Published at The Engineer) and Angellica Bell touched upon at the event, engineering companies must put their hands up and shout louder about what they do – engineering is usually key in addressing many problems we face, and engineers really are the unsung heroes of business in areas like manufacturing, renewables, technology and carbon reduction.

The Engineering Impact Award celebrates engineering projects that have played a significant role in addressing wide societal challenges. And the expert team of judges announced 7 shortlist finalists and their engineering impact projects:

  • 2nd Battalion Scots – Operation Newcombe 5
  • GD Rectifiers – Crossrail
  • Machine Compare – Where profit = planet
  • Megger – Water purification and solar power in the Colombian Amazonas
  • RS DesignSpark – The Mindful Droid
  • TISICS – LightLand
  • University of Sheffield – FluRefin

The University of Sheffield won the Engineering Impact Award for their FluRefin project, a new approach to carbon capture which makes the technology more accessible and affordable, playing a key role in the push for net zero.

Whilst GD Rectifiers did not win an award, we were truly honoured to be a finalist amongst some of the greatest in the industry!

Congratulations to all this year’s finalists and winners, thank you for your continued efforts in making the UK manufacturing and engineering industries an incredible success.

At GD Rectifiers we’re proud of our team and the design and technical challenges our engineers help solve. We hope that being shortlisted as a finalist in the Engineering & Manufacturing Awards this year has shone a light on our team and their individual achievements but has also paved the way for other SMEs to get the recognition they deserve.

Judges described our shortlist entry for our work on the Crossrail project as

“The development of a heat management system for the LED lighting used on London’s Queen Elizabeth line has helped advance the understanding of the application of heatsink technology and underlines the important role played by engineering SMEs in some of the UK’s largest projects. ”
