The amount of obsolescence parts in the electronic components industry has increased dramatically over the past 15 years.

It is quite common for manufacturers to launch a product with a short lifecycle in comparison to the lifecycle of the equipment it is being used in, this is especially evident in the military, aerospace and medical industries.

Over the last 15 years, the lifecycle of electronic components has decreased dramatically, it is now not unusual for parts to be discontinued after 12-18 months of introduction. The limited availability of parts makes it hard for buyers to forecast future requirements and liaise with their customers on repeat orders.
