IXYS UK Westcode Ltd. introduces two new, 6kV pressure contact rectifier diodes. The two new diodes have current ratings of 2830A & 3090A and are encapsulated in fully hermetic ceramic packages with copper electrodes. These new devices are suited to applications in the high megawatts, and expand the range of parts offered in this voltage class.

IXYS UK introduces new 6kV pressure contact rectifier diodes

The new 69mm die devices are available in industry standard 26mm and 35mm thick packages. The 26mm parts have average current ratng of 3090A and the 35mm parts average current rating of 2830A at a heat sink temperature of 55°C; both parts offer surge current rating of 36kA. The fully hermetic package has a 66mm electrode contact diameter, with an industry standard overall diameter of 100 mm. Construction uses a new improved process, when compared to IXYS earlier high current rectifier diode designs, with the silicon die directly bonded to a metallic disc. This structure offers both improved transient thermal conditions and overall greater robustness, when compared to designs with free floating silicon. This new device offers the possibility for reducing series parallel combination in very high megawatts rectifier applications, reducing component count and simplifying the mechanical construction.

The new device is available in industry standard 26mm & 35mm thick packages and three voltage grades. Designations are: 26mm thick package, W3090HA520 (Vrrm 5200V), W3090HA560 (Vrrm 5600V) & W3090HA600 (Vrrm 6000V) and 35mm thick package, W2830HE520 (Vrrm 5200V), W2830HE560 (Vrrm 5600V) & W2830HE6000 (Vrrm 6000V).

The 6kV voltage rating being ideal where 3kV DC output is required; typical applications include traction rectifiers & substations, front end rectification for medium voltage drives and all rectifier applicatons requiring devices in this power rating.
