August 2020 – EMI Filters for Medical Devices

Published on: 14/08/2020

Learn more about EMI filters and how the devices are driving the medical industry right now

EMI filters play an important role in ensuring reliable operation of medical equipment, especially in times like these when a global pandemic puts increasing strain on the NHS.

The medical industry has very specific parameters that must be met for components in a system – which include EMI filters. Filters being used in the medical industry must adhere to strict regulations that not only define the performance of the filter but also limit the leakage current to ground. Leakage current is usually caused by having capacitors (or other components) that are connected between the line and ground which allows the current to flow or leak onto the ground plane.

GD Rectifiers partners with Enerdoor to offer customers a comprehensive range of EMI-RFI filters in single phase, three phase and three phase plus neutral variants with very low leakage or zero leakage current. This filter range varies from 150KHz to 30MHz.

In addition to the standard EMI-RFI products, Enerdoor also offers solutions with attenuation of 100dB operating in a range of 9KHz to 10GHz depending on the model. Enerdoor’s medical filter series is designed to achieve a high level of shielding on protected environments. All models are characterised by high levels of attenuation from 60dB. For each application, there are suitable models for filtering supply lines from 50Hz from single phase to three phase EMI filters, designed for currents up to several hundred amperes.

Enerdoor’s EMI-RFI filters conform to FCC and CE Mark Standards; UL/CSA and UL508A products. Enerdoor is also one of the few manufacturers in the world able to supply filters that conform to the new short circuit current rating (SCCR) request of the UL508A for control panels. Enerdoor’s comprehensive range of circuit protection and electromagnetic components also come with a 5-year warranty, providing you with the reassurance you require for installing these high quality EMI-RFI filters in to a new device or application.
