Passive Components
A passive component does not require energy to operate, except for the available alternating current (AC) circuit that it is connected to. A passive component is not capable of power gain and is not a source of energy. These passive components are typically capacitors, resistors, inductors, and transformers which together are required to build any electrical or electronic circuit.
Today, passive components play an important role in all electronics, many integrated circuits include passive electronic components and many circuit boards contain some discrete passive components. They are a popular component, used for everything from power conversion to power stability, filtering, and configuring integrated circuits.
