GD Rectifiers hosts first ever Macmillan Coffee Morning
Here at GD Rectifiers, we are proud to support Macmillan Cancer Support by hosting our very own Macmillan Coffee Morning. All members of staff were encouraged to bring something in, whether they baked or bought something to donate. We all came together this morning to raise as much money as we could and took the opportunity to have a catch up with other members of our team.
Our Macmillan Coffee Morning
We received a fantastic selection of over 20 sweet treats including cakes, cupcakes, cookies and milkshakes. We also had a large selection of savoury snacks from sausage rolls and cheese and bacon turnovers to pork pies and quiches. The stars of the show were undoubtedly the home-made sausage rolls, victoria sponge cake, chocolate Bailey’s cheesecake and a delicious carrot cake kindly donated by Graham’s mum and sister, Steve and Terry.
Our staff made it a coffee morning to remember and even purchased cakes and savoury items to take home for friends and family. A special thank you to Toni’s Treats for kindly donating some delicious chocolate cupcakes for our event.
In total so far, we have raised an incredible £725 which includes generous donations from our colleagues, friends and family.
The first ever Macmillan Coffee Morning event happened in 1990 with guests donating the cost of their drink to Macmillan. Today, we see a host of coffee mornings organised by residents, committees, businesses, and retailers all coming together for the same goal, to try and raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support. Since 1990, coffee mornings alone have raised £290 million for Macmillan, with £12 million being raised in 2022. The event has a longstanding headline sponsor M&S which has sponsored the event for 14 years and Costa Coffee is supporting the event this year to help raise awareness.
How Macmillan Coffee Mornings help:
- £71 could help run our Online Community forum for over 3 hours. Typically, that would give nearly 198 people affected by cancer both emotional and practical support by providing a safe environment to share their experiences and emotions.
- £100 could pay for a person affected by cancer to attend a health and wellbeing event, providing them with skills to improve the management of these areas in their lives.
- £350 could pay for a Macmillan grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together. This can relieve financial pressure on a family that has been affected by cancer.
- £646 could pay for a Macmillan Support Worker for a week, helping patients, family members and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.
- £1202 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
There are currently 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and statistically one in three of us will get cancer in our lifetime and that is where Macmillan can help. Experts in providing medical, emotional, practical and financial support, Macmillan helps anyone suffering with cancer including their family and friends.
Macmillan understand how cancer can affect people’s whole lives – health, money, family, job; everything. And, after more than 100 years of caring, they understand that the most important thing is to treat people as individuals, not patients.
Macmillan take the time to understand the support people need to live their lives as fully as they can. From the moment of diagnosis and whenever they’re most needed, they are there to help people find their best way through. Their help is totally focused on each individual person, so everyone receives the support that’s best for them.
